HangoutsJan & Jeff (#5)
Click on the video to start watching Jan & Jeff #5. See summary and photos below.
Hangout starts with Jan's visit to a local bakery. Inside the bakery employees were dancing. Jan comments that in general the French tend to be reserved and so dancing was not what she excepted to see! Jeff asks Jan if she went to the truffle market over the last weekend. She did and says that truffles are selling for €600 per kilo. At the market a friend bought Jan Brie cheese that has truffles in it. Jan jokes that a good cheese with wine is better than an ice cream Sunday! Jan adds that she also visited some brocantes (flea markets). Jan mentions the French term chiner, meaning to go on the look out for antiques and bargains. Jeff says that were he lives vide-greniers (like a yard sale, without the yard) are starting soon as the weather gets warmer. Jeff adds that in the past he bought some 3D puzzles for a fraction of the cost compaired to buying new. He also goes to Emmaus, similar to Goodwill. Moving on Jan, will be making a Quiche Lorraine soon and will make sure to have her recipe for next time. Jan adds about a science newsletter she gets that it was about length of DNA. One strand is six feet long she says. Jeff remarks about the story of the American from the week before who came to France for an operation because it was cheaper in France than the US. Jeff goes on to say that where he lives one hospital has private rooms (sleeps two) for between €90-€200 per night including meals. The Hangout ends with Jan and Jeff talking about getting healthcare in both France and the US and who pays and at what rate. Jan says that a health bill she got in the US had international coding and that she will be visiting a local wine show. Brie cheese with truffles. Vide-Grenier 3D puzzle of the Eiffel Tower. Emmaus in Paris. Follow @jeffsteiner Sign-up for the FREE Americans in France newsletter. Just type in your e-mail address and click 'Subscribe'.
