English Speaking American Clubs/Organizations in Languedoc Anglophones Connecting in the South of France The Anglophone Group of Languedoc-Roussillon “AGLR” is a new and exciting social networking association based in Sète. Greatly inspired by the immensely successful group in Provence “AAGP” (Anglo-American Group of Provence) the AGLR was founded by two former members of the group in Provence who have relocated to the Languedoc Roussillon, Nancy McGee and Krista Cole started hunting for a similar association in the Languedoc Roussillon but they couldn’t find a group that would provide an extended number of activities, cater to men, women and children and be open to differing nationalities. As they were chatting over a cup of coffee and a bagel last October, they thought, “why don’t we just create the group”? The association was launched in February 2011 with a number of truly wonderful and dedicated volunteers on board. The AGLR is run solely by volunteers and, as it is a non profit organization, benefits will be donated to local charities. The AGLR has received excellent feedback from local authorities who fully support the initiative and has had a hearty welcome from the Anglophone community. The AGLR offers an extended variety of activities which include book discussions, hikes, business cocktails, children’s playgroups, whisky and wine tastings, afternoon tea, cooking classes, French conversation, golf, bridge, pot luck lunches and much more. The monthly calendar of activities, a description of events, contact info, membership application form and photos. are available on the website. Joining the AGLR also gives you access to the AGLR Forum, a group email service where the messages are sent to the mailboxes of all the members registered. The aim of the AGLR is to support English speaking newcomers to adapt to life in the area, to preserve and share Anglo-American traditions, language and culture and to promote a continuing exchange of friendship and understanding with the French communtity. We are pleased to be a part of a greater network of Anglophones in the South of France, supporting members but also contributing to local initiatives.
