Southern Burgundy Romanesque ChurchesVaux-en-Pré

The village church of Vaux-en-Pré - Notre-Dame is Romanesque. Meaning it was built between the 10th and 12th centuries. In the case of Notre-Dame building started in the middle of the 11th century. Over the years there were many add-ons and reconstructions but Notre-Dame is Romanesque at heart. As the bell tower is tall and the walls are massively thick. When you approach Vaux-en-Pré it’s easy to see the church’s bell tower from a good distance.

The village of Vaux-en-Pré can be found in Southern Burgundy off the D236 departmental road in the Saône-et-Loire department. Vaux-en-Pré is about 19 miles from Tournus and about 31 miles from Mâcon. A6 Autoroute access is possible from either Tournus or Mâcon.
