Southern BurgundyTrainspotting

France’s TGV – high speed train goes though Southern Burgundy at up to 180 mph. There are many good locations to see a TGV speeding by. What’s more all TGVs going to the South of France pass though Southern Burgundy. There are trains every 15-20 minutes.

Good locations for trainspotting are the D15 road between Cluny and Azé. There is a bridge with an unobstructed view in both directions. Le Creusot TGV Station (photo above and video)is also a great location as the trains zoom right through the station and there is free parking; unlike the Mâcon TGV Station, no need to worry about how long you spend trainspotting.

Another good location is the D28 road (photo below)northwest of Saint-Gengoux-le-National. If you drive from Saint-Gengoux-le-National you’ll need to turn left in Germaguy onto the D983, then after a very short drive, turn right back on the D28. Just after St Micaud there is a bridge the TGV passes under.
