Tournus FranceThen & Now

Set of seven then and now photos of Tournus France.

Building on the left with the arches is Hôtel Jean Magnon. On the right is Maison de l'Escargot (16th century). Both are historic monuments.

Avenue Gambetta is now part of the N6 national road and is much busier today.

Église Sainte-Madeleine de Tournus dates to the 11th century, making it Romanesque like nearby Saint-Philibert Abbey church. But unlike Saint-Philibert, Sainte-Madeleine was built within the once town walls.

The street looks to have changed the most in Place de Lacretelle.

The building in the background is Tournus' Hôtel de ville - town hall , built in 1777. The statue is of local son and painter Jean-Baptiste Greuze. The town's once Hôtel-Dieu houses the Greuze Museum.

This is looking from the Hôtel de ville at the Greuze statue and town square - Place de l'Hôtel-de-Ville.

The building on the left is again the Maison de l'Escargot. The Rue du Centre is now Rue de la République.
