La-Roche-sur-ForonSaint Denis Fair

Foire de la Saint Denis (Saint Denis Fair) is a yearly event that takes place in the center of La Roche sur Foron during the month of October. Normally close to October 9th, Saint Denis Day.

The fair starts around 9am and finishes in the evening around 6 pm or later. In between there are many events, including a communal lunch, live music and craft demonstrations. In 2007 the craft demonstrations included chainsaw sculpture, milling of trees, basket making and sewing. There is also a Village des Producteurs, where local farmers are able to sell their products, like cheese, sausage and snails. This includes a haystack where children can play.

The fair also includes a display of old tractors, a portable wheat mill (powered by a steam engine) and an apple press (complete with fresh apple juice!). The center of La Roche sur Foron is closed to traffic and the streets filled with market stalls, selling everything from clothes to food. There is also a section for livestock mostly cows and bulls.

See a video of the 2010 Saint Denis Fair.
