Southern BurgundyMont Saint Vincent

The village of Mont Saint Vincent as the name suggests sits upon a hill. The village overlooks the Southern Burgundy countryside and has an observation tower that offers you a 360 degree view. On a clear day you can see the Mont Blanc. On a normal day you can see local foot hills like the Monts du Charollais or the area locally known as the Chalonnais and of course vineyards and farmland. The observation tower has a map that makes it easy to know what you are looking at.

The village also has some nice medieval streets like rue de la Chapelle that lead to the village church, some streets seem to lead directly to the countryside below. There are also some nice houses including a ‘Grenier à Sel’ (Salt Storeroom) that is now an Archeological museum - Musée Jean Régnier. There are the ruins of a once chateau and many local walks. As with any French village, there is a bakery where you can buy bread and goodies to fill up on.

One other thing that Mont Saint Vincent has is a Romanesque church. The church was once part of a priory affiliated with Paray-le-Monial and sits on the edge of the village overlooking the local landscape. Near the church is the villages’ War Memorial.

Mont Saint Vincent is located in Southern Burgundy in the Saône-et-Loire department, off the D980 road that runs from Cluny. It is accessible from the A6 Autoroute, exit Tournus.

The village requests that you park outside the center. Just before you arrive (when coming south, from Cluny), there is a sign directing you to a parking lot and then walk into the village. It’s a bit up hill but a nice walk. There is a sign for the observation tower and the church.
