La-Roche-sur-ForonBluegrass Festival

Enjoy Bluegrass music in the French Alps at La Roche Bluegrass Festival. La Roche Bluegrass takes place yearly during the end of July, beginning of August. Over a long weekend you will get to hear some great Bluegrass with groups from the US and Europe. Best of all - it’s free.

Along with free concerts there are a number of other activities, games for children, Bluegrass workshops, country and western market, book and CD sellers, Sunday mass and lots more. The 2010 edition had a Square Dance workshop. Food and drink is served on festival grounds (Jambalaya was on the menu for 2010), but you are free to bring your own food if you like.

As with any Bluegrass festival there are many impromptu jam sessions. A good location to find jam session is at the Grenette next to the Town Hall or any of the bars and cafes in the center of town. There is a ‘Festival OFF’, where musicians play in bars around La Roche sur Foron.

La Roche Bluegrass Festival is in La Roche sur Foron off the A411 (A41 on some maps) Autoroute, exit 19. La Roche sur Foron is about 45 minutes from Geneva or Annecy and about an hour from Chamonix.
