I know of no film that better captures the beauty of a small French village than Chocolat. Filmed in Flavigny-sur-Ozerain in Burgundy, Chocolat is the story of a mysterious stranger arriving in a small French village and displeasing the local power to be.

Flavigny-sur-Ozerain is authentically everything the that movie makes it out to be, quaint, picturesque, charming and not to be overlooked if your in the region.

Located an hour's drive from Dijon in the heart of Burgundy. Flavigny-sur-Ozerain should not just be visited because of its Hollywood fame, but for its Aniseed Candy, famous throughout France. Sold in boxes as colorful as the candy is tasteful, Anis, in French, are pearl sized mouth watering treats not to be missed if you're in the village. I recommend the Abbey of Flavigny, Anis makers of the candy since the 9th century. Best of all they offer free samples!

Upon visiting Flavigny-sur-Ozerain make sure you arrive on the D9 road coming from the D905 road. This will allow you to get as close to a panoramic view as possible much like the opening scene in the film.

Flavigny-sur-Ozerain has a few restaurants but only one hotel, Le Relais de Flavigny and one Bed & Breakfast so book ahead if you would like to spend the night. There is an annual carnival in the beginning of March, a Sunday morning market from April to October and a Saint Simon's faire the last two weeks of October.
