ParisEiffel Tower - Under Construction

Construction on the Eiffel Tower started on January 28th 1887 and finsihed at the end of March 1889. The Eiffel Tower opened to the public on May 6th 1889. Here are some photos of the Eiffel Tower at various stages of construction.

Champ de Mars before the building of the Eiffel Tower. Slightly to the right you can see the Palais du Trocadéro with its two towers.

Building the fondations early 1887.

July 18th, 1887: Starting to build leg #4.

December 7th, 1887: All four legs almost built and scaffolding started to support building of first level

March 20th, 1888: Continued building of first level.

May 15th, 1888: Building the pillars above the first level.

August 21st, 1888: Working on the second level. Scaffolding removed offering a view of the Palais du Trocadéro in the distance.

December 26th, 1888: Almost there, starting work on the top level.

End of March 1889. Building of the structure finished.
