Eiffel TowerUnder Construction

Construction on the Eiffel Tower started on January 28th 1887 and finsihed at the end of March 1889. The Eiffel Tower opened to the public on May 6th 1889. Here are some photos of the Eiffel Tower at various stages of construction.

April 20th, 1887: Building the fondations with Les Invalides in the distance.

April 25th, 1887: Fondations for leg #1.

July 18th, 1887: Starting to build leg #4.

July 18th, 1887: More building.

August 30th, 1887: Four legs going up with the Palais du Trocadéro in the background.

December 7th, 1887: All four legs almost built and scaffolding started to support building of first level

January 7th, 1888: Four legs all built.

January 14th, 1888: Scaffolding from the ground.

March 20th, 1888: Continued building of first level.

May 15th, 1888: Building the pillars above the first level.

August 21st, 1888: Working on the second level. Scaffolding removed offering a view of the Palais du Trocadéro in the distance.

September 11th, 1888: Working on the second level - Palais du Trocadéro in the distance.

September 19th, 1888: Looking up at the first level. In the background buildings under construction for the Exposition Universelle.

November 28th, 1888: Getting close to finished.

December 6th, 1888: Almost there, starting work on the top level.

December 26th, 1888: Continuing work on the top level.

1889: Not yet finished, Eiffel Tower from across the Seine.

1889: Workers having lunch on the Eiffel Tower.

1889: Workers and visitors on the top level.

March 15th, 1889: Finishing up the Eiffel Tower.

March 22nd, 1889: Just about there.

End of March 1889: Building of the structure finished.
