Southern Burgundy Romanesque ChurchesDonzy le Perthuis Saint-Julien

The village church of Donzy le Perthuis - Saint-Julien was built sometime early in the 11th century. No construction date of Saint-Julien is know but its likeness to Saint-Martin in Blanot suggest this time period.

Saint-Julien, as are many of the Romanesque Churches in the region is set in the center of Donzy le Perthuis. Surrounded by houses in the village, one has been build up right against Saint-Julien taking away what would be a nice walk.

The village of Donzy le Perthuis is on the side of the Joux mountain and is very close to Cluny. This closeness, Saint-Julien is the closest Romanesque Churches to Cluny, suggests that Saint-Julien at some point in its history was under the direct influence of the Abby at Cluny.

Donzy le Perthuis is located on the D15 road in Southern Burgundy Autoroute exit 27 Tournus. After exiting the Autoroute take the N6 direction Macon then in Fleurville pick up the D15.
