Chamonix PhotosThen & Now

Set of 5 'then and now' photos of Chamonix in the French Alps.

Not quite the same view but very close, as the original postcard looks to have been taken at a lower point. You can see that the mountains are much the same but Chamonix has changed a lot in the last 100+ years.

As there are more buildings now than 100+ years ago, it's difficult to tell if the Horace-Benedict de Saussure and Jacques Balmat statue has moved over the years or not. But from looking at the bottom 'now' photo, it looks like the mountain on the left isn't the same as in the original.

If the Horace-Benedict de Saussure and Jacques Balmat statue hasn't moved over the years, the buildings sure have!

Chamonix's Saint-Michel church and Place de l'Eglise.

Not 100% the same view, so it's difficult to tell how many buildings are originals. The building at the end of the street looks to be the same, with a few changes.

Not in Chamonix but nearby - Pont Sainte-Marie-aux-Houches.
