Chalon-sur-SaôneNiépce Museum

This museum is named after Nicéphore Niépce, one of the inventors of photography. Niépce took the first known photograph in 1826 or 1927 in the nearby village of Saint-Loup-de-Varennes. The location is now a museum - Maison Nicéphore Niépce and his grave is nearby.

This museum has a blend of old cameras and avant-garde photography with a mix of ever changing expositions.

Located in the 18th century ex-Hôtel des Messageries Royales on the banks of the Saône River this museum opened in 1972 and is home to almost 6,000 photographic devices and 3 million plus images. You'll find room after room of displays and exhibitions.
