AutunRamparts & Tower

Of Autun's most forbidding walls, 6 km (3.7 miles) can still be seen. The best example is found to the west of the Cathedral. The walls run along a pleasant tree lined street. These ramparts start at the top of a hill where you can find the 12th century Tour des Ursulines. All that's left of the Château Riveau, destroyed at the end of the 1500's.

On top of the Tour des Ursulines is a three meter high statue of the Virgin Mary added in 1862. The tower is home to CITU, a cultural exchange organization founded by Japanese artist Hisao Takahashi. Looking west, not far from the Tour des Ursulines you get a nice view of Croix de la Libération.
